Founded in 2002, based on a partnership with Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation), Unipasto works in favor of scientific research for the launch of new forage crops and technologies to diversify and strengthen the performance of national agriculture.
Unipasto has been a partner of Ceptis Agro since 2017 when, based on the union of mutual efforts, the first version of the Semente Legal® program was developed. At the time, with the aim of protecting Embrapa’s intellectual property, the program was applied to forage seeds protected and sold by Unipasto members, who found themselves hostages to piracy and unfair competition in the sale of protected forage seeds, developed through the partnership with Embrapa and, therefore, still under the domain and exclusivity of the member companies.
Pirate seeds are illegally sold without any control over the quality, origin, pest and weed control and, obviously, without the proper authorization of their breeders, seriously harming consumers and affecting investments in research and development.
The version of the Semente Legal® program, which has been in operation since 2017 for Unipasto and its members, includes secure traceability with a guarantee of origin of protected crops from the SPU; checking the quality of these products, carried out on a sample basis by external quality assurance; and making this information available to consumers, through authentication of labels on packages via the Semente Legal® app.
